Last week’s podcast episode was about the ups and downs of Kenyan runners. I spoke how Kelvin Kiptum represented the future of Kenyan runners. Sadly, we lost him in an auto accident just a few days ago. The running world, including myself, was deeply saddened by this loss. He was so young and such a remarkable individual.
But this doesn’t change my opinion of Kenya’s future in running. As long as they continue to clamp down on doping and help train young runners, it is bright.
Now, a crinkle came up this morning and I don’t know if it’s going to lead to anything yet. But, four men have been arrested following their visit to Kiptum’s father’s house days before his death. They refused to identify themselves and said they were looking for Kelvin. The vehicle the men used has been impounded as part of the investigation. The motives are unclear and it is not known if anything will come of this, but if I hear anything, I will keep you posted.
For right now, we can only hope that there will be brighter days for Kenya.
