I have to remind myself that I only started re-running in July. It’s been two months since I started very slow intervals. And, as I remind myself of this teeny, tiny fact, I realize that in two months I’ve made pretty good progress.
I have a race next month. I was a little disappointed that I can’t run as much of it as I would like, but I can’t expect myself to run as if there wasn’t this huge interruption in my running. I went months without running and the road back into running is going to take a good while.
My progress is going well. Very well. I had the best run of these two months this past Tuesday. It was a 6.5 mile trail run through the Presidio. I even discovered this very cool loop that I will do a few more times. It’s hard but really, really fun! It starts at right at the beginning of Mason Street at Yacht Road, right at the MUNI #30 stop. It makes this great big loop, including under the Gloden Gate Bridge, along the Pacific Ocean, up through the golf course to the top of the hill and back down again to end at Sports Basement. I’m going to add in the Batteries to Bluffs Trail to get some extra mileage and kick! That will make it really fun!
But, the real trick is to stick healthy eating. If anything is, that’s the hardest part and my biggest downfall. Last year, before I realized I needed to replace my left hip, I was down five pounds. I know that’s not a lot, but I want to get back into loss mode before it turns into a bigger weight gain.
All these things will happen. One of the things I’ve learned is that positive changes happen as we’re older, they just take a little more time. So, with patience and vigilance, my running and weight loss will both continue.
