I read a few reviews of the new Timps. Most were positive, a couple didn’t like this style’s tongue. Altra has a problem with the tongue? What else is new? So, I took them out for 6 miles this week to see for myself. I stayed in San Francisco, in the Presidio, mostly on dirt trails, with a little paved. They felt good.
I didn’t have any problem with the tongue. One reviewer had said that the tongue was too stiff and rubbed into her ankle. It is a little stiff and I could see it being a problem if you wear those very low socks. But I’m not a fan of those no-see socks. I prefer the higher ones that leave a tan mark around your leg. And the tongue didn’t bother me at all. If fact, the shoes were quite comfy.
I ran all through the Presidio, up, up, up stairs and around some of the old barracks, giving these shoes a good workout. They were stabile and the perfect shoe for my needs. Plus, I really like the color! I have a pair of the dark green, which you can see in the picture.
Timps are my preferred style as it has more cushioning than the Lone Peaks. But, Altra had better not make then slimmer in the toe area, or they’ll lose a customer. They are perfect the way they are now, so don’t change that please!
