Today was a rest day and I needed it. The last couple of days I really gave my body a workout and it screamed out that it needed some rest. 

We also had breakfast and lunch free at work. 

One of the things I’m doing is making my eating healthier. I had lost 20 pounds last year and had kept 15 of those pounds off through last year. I did gain five pounds back, but I’m losing those, as well as losing enough (20 more pounds) to get to my goal weight, which I’ll hopefully reach by June. It’s not a crazy amount to lose and not a crazy amount of time to do it. 

I’m not one of those who believes in “diets”, nor do I believe in losing weight quickly. The adage is true. You lose weight too quickly, you’ll gain it just that fast back. 

I’ve lost weight before. I also had terrible migraine (Migraine Associated Vertigo) problems and gained all of the weight back. But how I lost it was through healthy eating and lots of exercise. I was marathon training, so I ran miles and miles and burned tons of calories. 

Now that I’m triathlete training, I’m also burning the calories. I’m also about eight years older and I don’t burn calories quite as fast but it’s still a matter of finding that right balance between calories consumed and calories burned. Especially with my swimming; I’m so hungry after I swim that I’m working on finding perfect meals for those nights. 


It’s a journey that’s just begun, and an exciting one. 

Back to work food. So, We had sandwiches and an awesome salad and cookies at work. And yes, you bet I had some! I’m not going to sit there and skip free food. I’d skip it if it were crappy fast food or something. But my work doesn’t do that, fortunately. 

I will not jump onto fad diets or trendy schemes that tell me I should give up entire food groups. WTF is that about? WHAT NO BREAD??? NO WAY!!!

I love bread! OK, so maybe no white bread 90% of the time. And maybe I try to avoid sweets most days of the month. But I’m not going to completely give up everything I love ALL the time. I DO use to track my calories and exercise and weight loss (or gain..). This way I know how I’m doing and I don’t go crazy from not having what I like at least once in a while. 

We each have to find out what works for us. If you do great on the Palio, go for it. I’m not a big meat eater, so it’s not for me. But I know some who swear by it. And I have some friends who love juicing. I don’t get full on liquids, I need whole food. So, we’re all different and don’t let anyone tell you their way is the only way. Walk away from them.
